about
Katt Hernandez, 2019
"This is a live solo I played at Fylkingen, for an event
produced by XKatedral in Stockholm, Sweden. I had been
through crucifixion for the good cause of #metoo – living
through devastating ostracization in my community; living
through the loss of many friends to cowardice. As I stood to
play, I saw a room full of people for whom I still had only love
in my heart, and felt I had entered a kind of ritual space.
Many were musicians themselves, and as I surveyed the
audience I heard waves of the music each of them has made,
in turn. They were seated in a circle, amphitheater style. And
so, with all their music in my mind's eye, I walked the inner
perimeter as I played. The steps are audible in the recording,
and later the dance music coming in through the walls from a
party boat outside. Perfection is a lie; let the distortion live,
the footfalls in the room, the dancing on the boat, the spectral
picture of the walls. I walked to banish all that hate, I walked
to express all this love, I walked to create some new outward
trajectory from that circle, from that place."
what should have been originally released. the lo-fi nature works wonderfully in the record's favor... feels very natural. bailey plays off of the backing quite nicely! james
